‘Screaming Woman’ mummy: 3,500-year-old Egyptian mystery solved

A recent study led by Professor Sahar Saleem of Cairo University has revealed that the ‘Screaming Woman’ mummy discovered in 1935 may have experienced cadaveric spasm at death, preserving her agonised facial expression. The woman, embalmed with high-quality ingredients over 3,500 years ago, was found in a coffin among the tombs of the New Kingdom period near Luxor, Egypt.
