Blinken returns to Mideast as Israel-Hamas cease-fire proposal hangs in balance after hostage rescue

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will return to the Middle East this week. His visit comes as an Israel-Hamas cease-fire deal hangs in the balance. This follows the dramatic rescue of four Israeli hostages held in Gaza during a significant military raid and ongoing turmoil in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. No firm response has been received from Hamas to the proposal sent ten days ago.
