Karachi banker with Iran ties in foiled plot to kill Trump

Pakistan announced its communication with US authorities regarding a Pakistani national’s alleged role in a failed plot to assassinate former President Donald Trump. The US Justice Department charged Asif Raza Merchant, who allegedly has connections with Tehran. Merchant purportedly sought to recruit individuals for the plot as retaliation for the killing of Iran’s Qasem Soleimani in 2020. He told investigators he has a wife and children in Iran and a separate family in Pakistan.
